Creative Writing With Dakota Lane

This workshop will run on Saturday mornings at 10:30 from October 7 through November 11. Please contact Dakota directly for registration: makeaworld@gmail.com.

Whether you are writing creative non-fiction, personal essay or any form of fiction, this six-week workshop will bring a fresh infusion to your writing life.  Dakota Lane--writer for NY Times and author of four award-winning novels--offers an intimate, fun and wildly inspiring creative writing intensive for anyone with pen, notebook and a story that’s dying to be told.

Expect timed writing exercise, mini-field trips and word hunts. Each week offers a different focus, including dialogue, atmosphere, character development and desire. Learn why plot is the last resort and what to do instead.

Designed for writers of all levels and genres,  with opportunity for detailed feedback on individual projects.

Depending on class interest, we will discuss traditional and alternative approaches to publishing, preparation of work, and how and when to obtain a literary agent.

$120 for six Saturdays or $25 per class.

Dakota Lane was a Yaddo fellow. She was a four-time American Library Association nominee and won ALA Best Book for JOHNNY VOODOO (Random House) as well as starred Kirkuk review. Her personal essays have appeared in Village Voice and Interview Magazine and she has written for The NY Times for the past ten years. Allen Ginsberg once said her work was “quite wonderful.”
