A native of Woodstock, NY, Deborah Sprenger began her writing career in high school when her
weekly column, “Smoke Signals,” appeared in the Ulster County Townsman. For many years, she
produced feature articles and interviews for the Woodstock Riding Club, earning byline and
photo credits in several local publications. Her memoir, Under Overlook, is a sometimes funny,
sometimes heartbreaking coming-of-age story in the shadow of Overlook Mountain in the 50’s
and 60’s.
A lifelong music lover, Deborah is a founding member of the SUNY Ulster Community Band
and the chamber group Summer Winds. She still lives in Ulster County and is a professional tutor
in the Writing Center at SUNY Ulster.
