Alison Gaylin Book Release and the Xtractions at the Colony

NEW APRIL DATE--rescheduled due to winter storm

Don't miss this unique event!

Alison Gaylin will launch the book tour of her latest mystery, "If I Die Tonight," with the Golden Notebook just down the street from our store at the Colony. Acclaimed author Abigail Thomas will interview Gaylin and then the local band The Xtractions will take the stage. It's a family affair as Alison Gaylin's husband Michael Gaylin plays guitar in the band.

Here's what reviewers are saying about "If I Die Tonight"--which is also set around the Hudson Valley--including Woodstock!

“Right now, Alison Gaylin is at the very top of her game, crafting exhilarating and audacious crime novels that are both rich in character and rivetingly told. Her books are, quite simply, not to be missed.” (Megan Abbott)
“This is mind-blowing suspense from an exceptional writer.” (Alex Marwood)
“Alison Gaylin keeps astonishing me. The only thing I know for certain when I pick up one of her books is that I’ll love it. If I Die Tonight continues her winning streak with its timely, twisty and utterly human take on the way we live (and die) today. One of the best crime novelists, bar none.” (Laura Lippman)
“Alison Gaylin is a great storyteller.” (Mark Billingham)
Praise for the novels of Alison Gaylin “What Remains of Me is a riveting, emotionally complex thriller, filled with characters who jump from the page and grab your heart.” (Alafair Burke, New York Times bestselling author of The Ex)
“Moody, densely layered mystery whose emotional notes are as affecting as the plot points are enthralling…a model of superb narrative craft.” (Los Angeles Review of Books)
“The story thrums with suspense, and rewards the reader with a surprising yet plausible conclusion.” (Huffington Post)

USA Today Bestselling author ALISON GAYLIN has been nominated for the Anthony and Edgar awards multiple times as well as the ITW award. RT Suspense award winner WHAT REMAINS OF ME was also nominated for the Edgar and the prestigious Strand Critics Award. Alison's books have been published in many countries, including the UK, France, Romania, the Netherlands and Japan. Her previous titles include the  Shamus Award-winning Brenna Spector suspense series. A graduate of Northwestern University and Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, she lives with her husband and daughter in Woodstock, New York. Her tenth book, If I Die Tonight, focuses on a carjacking/ hit-and-run in a small Hudson Valley town -- and how the fake news surrounding it impacts several lives.

The Xtractions are the Hudson Valley’s hottest new bar band, playing classic rock, blues, and soul hits from the 60’s through the 90’s with their own original take and unique sound.  The band’s five members - meek, anonymous business professionals during the day - get up on stage and blow the roof off local venues at night. They've been attracting large and enthusiastic crowds at their 2017 shows -- and 2018 looks to be even more exciting. When the Xtractions play - dancing is not an option. It’s inevitable.

Mike Bandschuh - bass/guitar. Mark Brenner - guitar/vocals. Meredith Briggs - keyboards/vocals. Mike Gaylin - guitar. Gerry Herman - vocals/percussion. Steve Thornton - drums
